Hygiene Fee
2006-12-07

It's YOUR Choice: Either Buy it or Bring it!

It seems that most parents have not understood the dispositions of the regulations in reference to the Hygiene fees.

The base premise is that personal hygiene products which are mandatory to be used in the daycare can EITHER be purchased from the daycare OR provided by the parents.

Many parents have opted NOT to purchase them from the daycare (which of course is their right), however these same parents have also neglected to provide these items, depriving their children of this necessary item, and further causing disciplinary problems within the classroom.

The Administration of the daycare is extremely upset with this situation, as we were expecting the parents who opted not to purchase the hygiene items from the daycare to have the good conscience of their child’s need to provide the products on the list. This has not happened.

The administration has noted excessive abuse of this by many parents, who have opted NOT to purchase the items from the daycare and NOT to provide them either, putting the daycare’s administration in a very difficult position.

The issue was further debated at the recent Parent’s Advisory Committee, where the Educator Representative, Sarais Caceres-Diaz mentioned the difficulties the educators are having with this issue, having created a form of "discrimination" amongst the children of the daycare.

The administration and the Parent’s Advisory Committee considers that any form of discrimination amongst the children is wrong and unacceptable, and therefore measures will be put into place to insure the proper administration of the program as per the regulation.

The administration has decided (further to a positive consultation with the Parent’s Advisory Committee), that as of Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007, there will be a strict control and verification system put in place to insure that all parents provide the hygiene products which are needed for their child and that they have opted not to purchase from the daycare.

The daycare will provide all parents with a personalized list applicable to their child (as per age and which products were not purchased from the daycare) of the items that the parent must provide. This list will take the form of a booklet – the “Hygiene Product Ration Booklet”.

On the first business day of the month, the parent must provide ALL the items on their list, in the quantities and quality specified. The parent must present them to a member of the staff which will verify that all items are included, and will stamp or initial the ration booklet in the appropriate place.

Should the parent neglect to include all items, the parent may opt to purchase the item from the daycare (for one month only or for a recuring period) or sign an undertaking to provide it within 24 hours.

If the parent continues to neglect to either bring the item or purchase it from the daycare, this will be considered abusive.

The daycare may refuse the child admission until such time as the situation is rectified, and respects their contractual undertakings towards the Daycare.

The administration of the daycare is committed to the strict enforcement of these policies and regulations.
